Where the astrology of the East meets the West
Dennis teaches all of his classes and workshops in the time
honored tradition of Shruti
, which in Sanskrit means that
which is heard. In this way there is a direct connection between
the teacher and the student. All classes and workshops are
available through live phone conferencing so the student can
participate in a real time learning environment no matter where
they reside, locally, nationally or internationally. Your
instructor, Dennis Flaherty, is one of the four foundational
people who co-sponsored the International Symposiums on Vedic
Astrology that brought the great teachers of Vedic Astrology to
speak to live western audiences the last two decades. He
continues that tradition each year by offering live phone
conferencing classes in Vedic Astrology at the NW Institute of
Vedic Sciences. Dennis is one of the founding members of the
ACVA. He is an approved
teacher of the ACVA and all classes and workshops count toward
ACVA certification.
This is a special foundational preparation class for Dennis’ correspondence course and tutor students only for aspiring professional astrologers. Course materials and homework are presented in a structured, progressive environment and emailed to the student in preparation for each class. The material is advanced and the pace is self-directed. Please reserve your space early, as class participation is limited.

Vedic sage, Parasara, says Venus is joyful in spirit, charming in physique, is splendorous and has beautiful, brilliant eyes; the inspirer of poets. Although often relegated to the title “lesser benefic”, Venus none the less is also of Brahmin caste, same as Jupiter, and a first rate benefic planet in his own right. The Sanskrit name, Shukra, means brilliant light. Venus is never more brilliant than at his closest approach to the earth and at those times will rival Jupiter in brilliance, to become the most brilliant planet in the sky even observable during the day!
Venus is a cloud-covered planet that has held its secrets closely.
Recent probes have revealed a tumultuous landscape swept by violent
storms. Venus is the only planet whose day is longer than its year. It
rotates on its axis in 243 days and only takes 225 to circle the Sun.
Venus rotates on its axis in the opposite direction of all the other
planets! He is never more than 48 degrees from the Sun and in an 8 year
period of time will make 10 conjunctions with the Sun; 5 superior and 5
inferior. The inferior conjunction of Venus with the Sun takes place
when Venus is close to the earth, between the Sun and the Earth, during
his retrograde cycle of 42 days, where he will appear as evening star,
then disappear, only to appear again as a morning star. During this time
Venus can spend up to 4 months in a constellation.
This September Venus will transit the constellation of Libra, and remain in Libra until the end of the year. The nature of Venus in Libra will become intensified during this period of proximity to the earth, and the stormy secrets of Venus’ passion revealed. Join Dennis, as he reveals the secrets of the most brilliant and passionate of the planets, the first being that Vedic astrologers are careful not to plan marriages and other auspicious events during the times the most brilliant of the planets has disappeared from our view.

The Ninth bhava is known as Bhaga Bhava; the house of fortune. Of the nine planets, the ninth lord is considered to be the most auspicious of the planets for his ability on one hand to confer the great Raja Yogas for success and position, and on the other hand, the Dhana and Lakshmi Yogas for prosperity and wealth. Further, the ninth division, the Navamsa is the most important of all the divisional charts as it determines which fruits of the chart are mature and ready to be experienced. The ninth house, the ninth planetary lord, the ninth divisional chart must be thoroughly examined to determine the full fortune of grace and providence operative in the nativity. If you cannot illuminate these principles, you will be missing the mark. Join Dennis as he takes your chart interpretation skills to the ninth degree.

Vedic sage Parasara list a total of 16 vargas, or divisional charts that are derived from the birth chart. Each amsa, or part, is likened to a branch of the tree of life. He suggest the use of 6 of these amsas: the 2nd Hora, being the branch of life that deals with wealth, the 3rd Drekkena, the branch of siblings, the 9th Navamsa, the branch of marriage, the 7th Saptamsa, the branch of children, the 12th Dwadasamsa, the branch of parents, and the unlucky 13th Trimsamsa, the branch of misery and sorrow. Contemporary Vedic astrologers use the 10th Dasamsa, for vocation, and the 60th Shastiamsa for twins and multiple births, which are becoming more frequent. Let Dennis show you when and how to use each of the vargas to enrich your chart interpretation and predictions.
